The Mute Swan is a well known and widespread bird in the British Isles. It is one of seven species of swan worldwide and is the largest bird found in Britain. The Male is known as a Cob, the female as a Pen and the young as cygnets. Most Mute Swans in the UK are considered the property of the British monarch.
