THE BLOGGY BIT...

Having had this page as a 'guestbook' for eighteen months and not doing anything with it, the least I could do is promote this page to 'BLOG' status.

Ill.

Why do we become ill? What purpose does being ill have? I have spent two sweaty nights in bed, have had a temperature, nearly choked on my own catarrh and worst of all, I watched a Jeremy Kyle show
.

I hate being ill and what I hate even more is the term 'Man Flu'. Which irksome woman came up with that? If it made you feel superior then well done for coming up with it, you must feel proud of yourself.

Woke up this morning feeling quite rough - it appears as though I have a very nasty cough on the way. Rather than disturb everyone by putting the heating on, I decided that I'd give the kitchen-diner a five minute blast with the gas hobs on...
did the trick...

Some time ago, I manipulated a photograph of my daughter and called it 'Possessed'. This didn't go down too well at the time, so today I decided to try the same sort of effect but on a self-portrait.

possessed

Here's a brief explanation of how I achieved the overall effect:

I took an ordinary photo of myself, with my head down and my eyes looking up at the camera. I then did an auto contrast and an auto levels and converted it all to black and white. I cut and pasted the same layer into a new layer and deleted everything but my eyes and changed the blending mode to 'screen' (or should that be scream?). I then fiddled about with the area around my eyes burning in and dodging. I then cut and pasted (and flipped) one half of my face and moved it into position so that it was an exact mirror image of the other side. A quick click of the paintbrush using black for my pupils and another quick click of the paintbrush using white for the catchlights finished it off.

At 7:30 tonight, I was delighted to receive a private message via the Amateur Photographer forum from none other than Damien Demolder, the editor of the magazine. Having won an online monthly competition through the Amateur Photographer forum, he asked for a higher resolution version of this image so that it can be printed for a short feature that he is putting together for the Christmas issue of AP!

Earlier on in the day, I was rather shocked (yet not surprised) that two of the leading supermarkets in Britain will be changing their name due to the majority of the population not knowing what these two supermarkets are really called. I have been able to access the altered graphics... you've seen and heard it here first!

Having had a rather lazy day, Tanya and I decided to get ourselves out of the house for an hour or so. We hadn't really planned on where we were going and what we were going to photograph. First of all, we ended up at a level crossing, right near Havant train station... I decided to take some shots from the railway bridge on a slow shutter speed...

15:42

Decided to call this the 15:42 as it was the time I took the shot. Not sure whether I shall be including this in any of my galleries because it should have been taken on a tripod and it also doesn't seem to fit any particular gallery theme.

We then drove up to Broadmarsh which is across the Langstone Channel from the city of Portsmouth. The sunset was just incredible, the colours were exactly as you see here... I shall be uploading this image to my South East gallery soon...

Here's why blogs are so great... I wouldn't normally include such a photograph in any one of my galleries, however, I can here! After having such a dreadful start to the season and then instating Gary Megson as our manager, I felt my team were doomed for relegation (I'm still wondering whether we can avoid the drop) but today's result made up for the season's disappointments so far...

Forgot to mention that whenever a new featured gallery is added, I shall be adding a thumbnail graphic of the gallery in recent additions to make visitors aware of one being added.

Here's what the graphic icon looks like, along with a link to the latest featured gallery...

I've also been looking at slightly redesigning the navigation on my site, as I am aware that some people aren't all that keen on my graphic icons... here's what I have come up with, just not sure if they work or not...

Well, I have finally ventured into the trendy way of keeping people up-to-date with my antics.

This week has been quite eventful I guess.

After having a lengthy chat on Skype with my parents, they pointed out that The One Show (BBC1 7:00pm) were covering trees as a subject matter and were asking for viewers to email their shots. I decided to use my 'Woodsmoke' shot as it was about the only one of 'My Favourite Tree' that I'd taken using digital. As yet, I haven't heard a thing...

On Tuesday, we had our second league competition at Havant Camera Club and I managed to claim top marks with my 'Done Flower' shot. It's my second 10 in succession so it's now a battle to see if I can win the A League overall...
