THE YOMPER

Sculptor, Philip Jackson made this statue which was modelled on a photograph of Corporal Peter Robinson yomping to 'Sapper Hill'. It was unveiled by Baroness Thatcher on 8 July 1992 and commemorates all the Royal Marines and those who Served with them in the South Atlantic during the Falklands War of 1982. It is located on the Eastney Esplanade at the entrance to the Royal Marines Museum in Portsmouth.
