SUMATRAN ORANGUTANS Pongo pygmaeus abelii These solitary, tree-dwelling apes live in the tropical rainforest of Sumatra, feeding mainly on fruit. At night each orang-utan makes a fresh sleeping nest high in the trees. This subspecies of orang-utan is endangered due to loss of habitat.
