THE CRAZY 365 BIT...

This is where, as from the 1st May 2010, I shall be taking an image a day.
Not for one second am I expecting this area to contain any masterpieces, it's more of an ongoing project and, in some respects, a bit of photographic discipline

trees frieze

Monday 31st January 2011 - 'Trees Frieze'

Taken on my way home from freelancing, on the road that runs from Buriton to Ditcham in Hampshire.

no real direction

Sunday 30th January 2011 - 'No Real Direction'

Taken on an industrial estate in Havant.

frothblower

Saturday 29th January 2011 - 'Frothblower'

Ever since revitalising my passion with real ales some three years ago, I decided to become what is known as a 'labologist' (a person who collects beer labels). This is a very small selection of the ones I have collected so far...

vibrant

Friday 28th January 2011 - 'Vibrant'

Location was Portsdown Hill, which overlooks the city of Portsmouth, and Tanya was the model.

grater galaxy

Thursday 27th January 2011 - 'Grater Galaxy'

Following on from Tanya's 365 yesterday, I noticed some cosmic patterns when light was shone through our cheese grater...

cluster

Wednesday 26th January 2011 - 'Cluster'

Condensation on the inside of the 'window' of our Breville kettle.

glass and steel

Tuesday 25th January 2011 - 'Glass and Steel'

Another macro shot, and very abstract with it. This is the edge of glass on a stainless steel draining board. It's straddled across the raised area, which is why the edge has been reflected in the recess area.

daff stems

Monday 24th January 2011 - 'Daff Stems'

A couple of daffodil stems in some water. I liked how the level of water changed around them.

fond farewell

Sunday 23rd January 2011 - 'Fond Farewell'

Tanya and I joined thousands of people who had literally lined the streets of Portsmouth yesterday and today, so they could say goodbye to the Royal Navy's flagship, HMS Ark Royal. Decommissioned as part of the government's defence cuts, the ship was open for the general public to have one last chance to have a look around her. Here's quite a poignant shot I took whilst there…

ignition

Saturday 22nd January 2011 - 'Ignition'

Having spoken to a couple of colleagues about a shot like this, I decided to give it a try this afternoon. I'm sure I can do better, although I did try several different ISOs, apertures and shutter speeds, this one being one of the best.
I also suffered mild sulfrum and phosphorum poisoning in the process, having gone through more than half a box of matches... the lengths a photographer will go to...

high moon

Friday 21st January 2011 - 'High Moon'

A simple shot of the moon... f14, 1/30 sec, ISO 400, 300mm lens.

sir

Thursday 20th January 2011 - 'Sir'

Since a few of us started our '365 - An Image A Day' project in May, most of us now have 100 shots to go, so what better way to mark the event with a shot that's a little bit special.
Whilst researching about Petersfield Cemetery yesterday, I found out that none other than Sir Alec Guinness is buried within the grounds. I must have looked rather odd whilst hunting around for his gravestone, but it was worth it.

chapel on the hill

Wednesday 19th January 2011 - 'Chapel On The Hill'

A shot of one of two Grade II listed Victorian chapels within the grounds of Petersfield Cemetery. I found something out about the cemetery this afternoon and will be returning there tomorrow for a special '100 images to go' shot (don't worry, it doesn't involve any exhuming).

two for tea

Tuesday 18th January 2011 - 'Two For Tea'

Whilst sat at my computer at 4 o'clock this morning (yes, I couldn't sleep), I noticed an unusual shadow on the wall, created by my tungsten angle poise lamp.
With the introduction of an LED light as well, from a slightly different angle, the shadow became almost 3D, especially as both light sources created different coloured shadows.

graceful

Monday 17th January 2011 - 'Graceful'

Taken at Emsworth Harbour today, which turned out to be a rather pleasant afternoon after all the rain this morning.

milestone

Sunday 16th January 2011 - 'Milestone'

Taken quite some research to find the exact whereabouts of this milestone. It originally sat on the side of the old A3 London to Portsmouth road and can now be found within the grounds of Queen Elizabeth Country Park.

red alert

Saturday 15th January 2011 - 'Red Alert'

A macro shot of a plug socket switch light.

geometry

Friday 14th January 2011 - 'Geometry'

A simple shot in our lounge of an armchair, a radiator and our blinds.

spindles

Thursday 13th January 2011 - 'Spindles'

Some time ago, when Tanya decided she wanted our hall, stairs and landing to be completely white, I suggested a compromise by painting each one of the banister spindles in every one of the tester pot colours we had in the house. Inspired, I know.

head down

Wednesday 12th January 2011 - 'Head Down'

I can still remember virtually all the teachers at school telling me off and to "get my head down"... well, today, I got it.

the dark side of light

Tuesday 11th January 2011 - 'The Dark Side of Light'

A 30-second exposure, concentrating the light in specific areas during it, mainly from the left and then underneath the spoon.

raw light

Monday 10th January 2011 - 'Naked Light'

A self-portrait using an LED torch and a long exposure.

a lamp and a rather wobbly wall

Sunday 9th January 2011 - 'A Lamp And A Rather Wobbly Wall'

Taken on Queen Street in Emsworth, Hampshire.

outsider

Saturday 8th January 2011 - 'Outsider'

Two clusters of washing up bubbles resting on the surface of a pan left to soak.

a glass, some beer and a little air bubble

Friday 7th January 2011 - 'A glass, some beer and a little air bubble'

My most original title yet.

fused

Thursday 6th January 2011 - 'Fused'

One of those three-way three-pin plug socket things...

three hangers hanging

Wednesday 5th January 2011 - 'Three Hangers Hanging'

Something about coat hangers... I like the shape of them. Thought I'd be a little more artistic than usual and attached three hangers to our bedroom ceiling, using cotton threads and masking tape and then backlit them with a bedside lamp.

panstacking

Tuesday 4th January 2011 - 'Panstacking'

Three pans. Stacked. Done.

surface tension

Monday 3rd January 2011 - 'Surface Tension'

A macro shot of a bubble in some washing-up liquid.

south parade pier

Sunday 2nd January 2011 - 'South Parade Pier'

Made the most of a beautiful winter's day by having a walk along Southsea Promenade.

inquisitive

Saturday 1st January 2011 - 'Inquisitive'

Not a single part of this shot is in focus, yet it humoured me enough to include it as today's shot.
